Variety Description
Hosta Mama Mia (Benedict, NR) [Parentage unknown] Dark green shiny leaves have a creamy golden edge. The edge gets lighter as the season progresses and varies in width. Lavender flowers. Makes a medium size clump.
Hosta Maraschino Cherry (Zilis, 1999) [Sport from H. Cherry Berry] An all green form of the parent, this hosta grows and grows. Clump gets 16 inches tall and nearly 3 feet wide. Great as a background to variegated plants. Wonderful red scapes with lavender flowers
Hosta Margey (Banyai/Helsley, 1998) [Parentage Unknown] A real cutie, all green leaves with pale lavender flowers. Clump only gets 3 inches tall and 5 inches wide. Oh how CUTE!
Hosta Margin of Error (Kuk, 1995) [Sport from H. Artist's Palette] From Bob Kuk, this beauty has medium to dark green leaves that are long and thick, with a creamy white border. Nothing bothers it in the garden! Clump gets 14 inches tall and 15 inches wide. Pale lavender flowers.
Hosta Maruba Iwa (Japan, NR) [Parentage unknown] A small hosta with green slightly wavy leaves. Makes a nice full clump with shiny undersides. Lavender flowers.
Hosta Mary Marie Ann (Englerth, 1982) [A seedling whose pod parent is H. Aoki] This should prove to be an interesting hosta. It has creamy yellow leaves with a blue green edge. The center lighten when given some sun. The leaves are twisted and wavy. Very unique. The clump only gets 8 inches tall and 12 inches wide. Lavender flowers
Hosta Masquerade (Unknown, NR) [Parentage unknown] Oh my gosh, talk about the perfect Fairy plant! This adorable little hosta has white long narrow leaves surrounded by a green edge. It's only 5 inches high and 8 inches wide and fills in really quick, especially for a white centered hosta. Dark lavender flowers. Too CUTE!
Hosta Maya (Ruh/Meissner, 1996) [Sport from H. Fortunei Albopicta] Interesting yellow leaves in Spring bordered by a dark green edge. As the season progresses, it turns all green. Clump reaches only 10 inches tall and a foot wide. Lavender flowers.
Hosta Medusa (Herold, 1993) [H. Neat Splash x H. gracillima] Talk about a show stopper! WOW! This little hosta has some amazing leaves that are creamy white in the center surrounded by a green edge. The leaves are long and twist and turn with rippled edges, just like it's namesake's head! A real beauty, with pale purple flowers.
Hosta Midwest Magic (Zilis, 1999) [Sport from H. Prairie Glow] A mature specimen of this hosta is stunning! Greenish gold leaves surrounded by a vivid green edge, with a nice sheen to them. The clump reaches 21 inches high and nearly 4 feet wide. Pale lavender flowers.
Hosta Mildred Seaver (Vaughn, 1981) [H. Breeder's Choice x H. Frances Williams] Green wide leaves emerge with a creamy yellow margin that later turns white. Clump gets nearly 2 feet tall and almost 5 feet wide. Topped with lavender flowers. A Fine tribute to the "Queen of Hostas" which this plant was named for!
Hosta Ming Jade (Syre-Herz, 1987) [Parentage unknown] This green hosta has very crinkled, cupped leaves. The clump gets 2 feet tall and over 5 feet wide. Great as an accent plant. White sparse flowers.
Hosta Ming Treasure (Zilis, 1999) Fragrant [Sport from H. plantaginea] Slightly shiny and wavy light green leaves, bordered by a yellow edge. Clump gets 25 inches tall and 57 inches wide. In midsummer it is topped with pure white fragrant flowers. Plant this one where you can enjoy it's fragrance!
Hosta Minuteman (Machen Jr, 1994) [Sport from H. Francee] Although this hosta resembles H. Patriot it has darker green leaves and a much wider creamy-white edge. The clump gets a foot height by two feet wide. Pale lavender flowers.
Hosta montana 'Aureomarginata' (AHS, 1987) [Parentage unknown] Dark green leaved with a nice wide yellowish green edge. A little slow to get established, but a beauty when it does! Clump is 27 inches tall and four feet wide. Pale Lavender flowers. 1985 Alex J. Summers Distinguished Merit Hosta
Hosta montana macrophylla

(Maekawa, NR) [Parentage unknown] Wow oh wow! This one is huge! Giant dark green leaves that stand up and get your attention. Clump gets nearly 3 feet tall and 75 inches wide! Give her lots of room. Makes a big statement as a specimen plant. Lavender flowers.
Hosta Moon River (Lachman, 1991) [H. Crepe Suzette x H. Blue Moon] Dark blue green leaves with a wide crisp white edge. Makes a nice dense compact clump reaching nearly a foot high and 16 inches wide. Nice deep veins on it's leaves. Pale lavender flowers.
Hosta Moonlight (Banyai, 1977) [Sport from H. Gold Standard] It's leaves are a greenish gold color with a nice white edge that bleeds into the center. Clump is a foot high and 18 inches wide. Very prolific pale lavender flowers. Nice!
Hosta Moonlight Sonata (Johnson, NR) Fragrant [Parentage unknown] Blue green leaves that later turn a nice shiny slightly wavy green. Clump gets about a foot tall and 20 inches wide. Great for its white fragrant flowers!
Hosta Morning Light (Van Eijk-Bos/van Erven, 2000) Patented [Sport from H. Twilight] The reverse of it's parent, this hosta ahs pale golden yellow leaves with a very dark green edge. Will make a nice large clump getting nearly two feet tall. Wonderful substance to it's leaves. Pale lavender flowers.
Hosta Mount Fuji (Wilkins, 1989) [A seedling whose pod parent is H. montana Aureomarginata] A rare hosta indeed, from our friends the Wilkins'. Makes an upright clump that's 28 inches tall and over 5 feet wide. Great for the back of the border. Deeply impressed veins. White to pale lavender flowers.
Hosta Mount Holyoke (Lachman, NR) [ Parentage Unknown] Little is known about this Lachman plant.
Hosta My Friend Nancy (H. Benedict/N. Krul, 1991) [ H. Dorothy Benedict x H. montana Chirifu] A stunning clump with great substance. The blue-green leaves are surrounded by a wide creamy border. It will get 15" tall and 30" wide and have lavender flowers in midsummer.
Hosta Neat and Tidy (Simpers, 1980) [A seedling whose pod parent is H. Golden Circles] Very upright blue green leaves that later turn dark green. Clump gets 30 inches tall and 32 inches wide. Near white flowers.
Hosta Neat Splash (Aden, 1978) [H. Yellow Splash x H. Fortunei Robusta hybrid] Dark green leaves with creamy white edge that extends into the leaves causing wonderful streaking. Extensively used for breeding as it has very fertile lavender flowers. Small clump only gets 8 inches tall and nearly a foot wide.
Hosta Neat Splash Rim (AHS, 1986) [Sport from H. Neat Splash] A beautiful green hosta with creamy yellow to white edges. Clump gets 16 inches tall and over two feet wide. It has darker lavender flowers.
Hosta New June (?) [ Sport from H. June] Like it's parent, only with a much bluer and wider edge. Same creamy center. Clump gets 15 inches tall and 20 inches wide. Stunning plant, and when planted near it's parent, you can see the difference.
Hosta New Wave (Zilis/D. Lohman, 1988) [H. Sum and Substance x H. venusta hybrid] Lime green leaves that have a slight wave to them. Clump gets a foot high and 25 inches wide. Great for the front of the border as it is a low spreading hosta. Pale lavender flowers.
Hosta Niagara Falls (Brincka/Petryszyn, 1991) [H. montana macrophylla x H. Sea Drift] Pointy dark green leaves with deep veins and rippled edges that cascade like a waterfall. Amazing clump gets 20 inches tall and nearly 4 feet wide! WOW! Pale lavender flowers. Makes a stunning specimen plant!
Hosta Night before Christmas (Machen Jr., 1994) [Sport from H. White Christmas] Pointy creamy white centers with a wide medium green edge. Makes a statement in your garden. Clump reaches 18 inches tall and 30 inches wide. Stunning! Lavender flowers in midseason.
Hosta nigrescens

(species) A must for every hosta garden. This upright hosta has grayish blue leaves that clump together very tightly. One our favorites to watch emerge. Forms a tight clump nearly two feet tall. We've seen older clumps that are HUGE! White flowers 1997 Alex J. Summers Distinguished Merit Hosta
Hosta nigrescens 'Elatior' (Maekawa, NR) [Parentage unknown] A massive clump of large, shiny green leaves. It's flower stalks reach 6-7 feet high with near white flowers. Very dramatic, very impressive. Give her LOTS of room.
Hosta North Hills (Summers/AHS, 1986) [Sport from H. Fortunei Albomarginata] Dark green leaves with a narrow white edge. Forms a medium size clump and is very crisp and clean looking. Pale lavender flowers.
Hosta Northern Exposure (Walters Gardens, 1997) [Sport from H. Elegans] Blue green leaves emerge with a creamy yellowish edge that later turns more cream colored. Truly a stunning plant whose puckered leaves have a slight wave to them. Clump gets three feet tall and 66 inches wide. Great white flowers. Very impressive!
Hosta Northern Halo (Walters Gardens, 1984) [Sport from H. Elegans] A slow grower, but a beauty. Blue green leaves with a nice creamy white edge. Clumps are nearly two feet tall and three feet wide. Once established, it's stunning. White flowers.
